How To Get Involved With Fibromyalgia Awareness Day

Today is International Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. If you’d like to get involved, read our blog to find out how.

Fibromyalgia is an extremely painful condition which causes a variety of symptoms, including increased sensitivity to pain, fatigue, stiffness, IBS, and extreme pain all over the body. The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, although it has been linked to abnormal levels of specific chemicals in the brain. There is no cure for fibromyalgia, however there are treatments available which have the ability to alleviate symptoms slightly and make everyday life a little easier. Today is the official day of International Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of the poorly understood condition that affects approximately 800,000 people in the UK. As a fibromyalgia lawyer firm, we want to get involved as much as we can during the day and throughout May. If you do too, continue reading this blog post to find out how.

1) Raise money – gather your unwanted belongings together and host a garage sale to raise money for a fibromyalgia-related charity. Make it an event by getting your family, friends and/ or neighbours involved and spread the word by printing brochures or leaflets. Let people know where you will be donating the raised money and educate them on fibromyalgia, so they better understand the condition.

2) Share your experiences – if you are a fibromyalgia sufferer, educate others on the condition by sharing your own story. This can be done through social media, a blog, YouTube videos or by taking part in a talk at a local school or college. Share your symptoms, struggles, and anything that you think has helped your pain.

3) Incorporate purple – change the colour of your outside light bulbs, wear a purple t-shirt, hat, scarf etc. When/ if somebody asks you why you’re wearing this colour, take the time to talk about fibromyalgia and educate your work colleagues and/ or family members.

4) Host a get together – host your own coffee morning or invite your friends to dine out and spread awareness of the condition by creating your own leaflets. Have a donation box at the ready, so attendees can do their bit to help.

5) Take part in an interview – contact your local radio station to discuss the opportunity of taking part in an interview to discuss all you know about fibromyalgia.

6) Create your own Facebook page – grow your community and raise awareness by sharing your favourite articles, groups, blogs, and general news to educate others on the condition.

7) Use the hashtags – when posting on social media, make sure you use the relevant hashtags, such as #FibromyalgiaAwareness and #FibromyalgiaAwarenessDay. This way, you will be able to join in with the community and will have the ability to connect with fellow supporters.

Do you have any other ideas on how people can get involved with the all-important day? If so, leave a comment in the comments section below or join the conversation on our Facebook or Twitter pages.
